Saturday Morning Club

The Kids Saturday Bike Club is a totally voluntary organisation, started by East Bradford Cycling Club's Mike Healey and Jim Littlefair. While it is still largely run by these two veteran cyclists, the parents of the kids who attend are encouraged to participate. Mike is a qualified coach, as are a number of other EBCC members who help out, and the sessions are fully insured.

KSBC is run for the kids and partly, for their parents. If the latter want to know how the former can get fit and have fun, look no further than KSBC!

Session Guide for Perplexed New Parents

The cost for each session  is currently £2.50 for the first child and £2.00 for any brother or sister.  How is this so cheap? Well, KSBC is run entirely by volunteers and none of the coaches are paid for the time at Richard Dunn. The sessions are fully insured. We start at 10.30 a.m. prompt until 12.30 p.m. There is a short break at about 11.30 a.m. so bring a snack or some cash to buy something from the cafe inside the Richard Dunn centre.

Guidelines

For everyone (children and parents) to get the most out of the club and to keep everything running smoothly there are a few guidelines (rules?!) that we'd like people to follow.

Kids.

For the kids, the rules are simple:

The Sessions.

We organise two main kinds of activities: skills and racing.
Each session starts with a warm-up, often consisting of team relays or other games, which help the kids practise some of the standard skills.

After that the children separate into racing and skills groups until about 11.30 when we have a break. In the first half the skills are mostly for the beginners while the more advanced riders revise what they've learnt so far, using various obstacle courses. After the break, more racing for those who want it and sessions on Silver/Gold Trix, individual skills or obstacles. Throughout the session kids can choose to indulge in some competitive games.During the winter months this is likely to be cyclo-cross, while in the warmer parts of the year this may be bunch racing on our closed, traffic free cycle track. Time trials of varying length (from 0.5mile to 10miles, depending on age and experience) are usually run each week.
